Comprehensive Exam wiki
Current reading lists for all comprehensive exams are available at this wiki.
Currently enrolled Ph.D. students in sociology can apply for an account that allows you to edit the lists. This way, students can identify and correct typos, as well as add links to JSTOR or McMaster's library catalogue. Please contact the wiki manager, Dr. Tina Fetner, if you have questions about the comprehensive exam wiki.
PhD COMPREHENSIVE AREA EXAMINATION COMMITTEES 2012-2013
- Ph.D. candidates will be required to take two comprehensive area examinations - one from Group A and one from Group B, or both from Group A.
- Supervisors may sit on one or both Group A and B comprehensives, but may act as chair ONLY on the Group B area comprehensive.
- The examining committees in A and B will ensure that there is no extensive overlap in the examination of each student between Groups A and B.
- All comprehensive examinations require THREE members. In the case of an oral comprehensive examination an audio recording should be made whenever there are fewer than three examiners present (ref: "Policy for keeping records of Graduate Student Oral Examination approved by Senate, May 25, 1994).
